  • A fun chaotic pirate romance with a strong emotional payoff

Beneath Crimson Sails starts with everything I wanted from a pirate adventure: clear motivation, immediate danger, and a treasure hunt that wastes no time pulling you in. Catherine and Rob have easy, believable chemistry, and their growing connection adds warmth to the mystery without overwhelming it. Once the story locks onto the curse, the treasure, and Catherine's final choice, it finds its footing again, delivering an emotional payoff that feels genuine and satisfying.

Where it stumbles is in the middle. Too much time is spent on Belle's jealousy and repetitive shipboard drama, slowing the momentum and pulling focus away from the treasure mystery. By the finale, a few major story threads are simply left behind, making the ending feel less complete than it could have been. Even so, I had a great time. It's charming, adventurous, funny, and refreshingly different; and honestly, pirates are always a welcome bonus.
